The village overlooks the Garonne valley and was called after the XIVth century castle of Hamel which still stands on its towering position.
Castets is the starting point of the Canal de Garonne opened in 1856; the “Green Road” cycling track starts here too and just like the channel, it will allow youto ride all the way down to Toulouse and the Mediterranean.
